چکیده

It is possible that the origin of Podarcis sicurus, which was introduced to Turkey by humans, based on two different source populations or samples geographies may differ at subspecies level. The rapid evolutionary processes observed in island species can similarly occur and isolated populations. In this study Tissues were taken from obtained Zonguldak, Istanbul Samsun. mtDNA gene sequences combined with sicurus downloaded Genbank. Phylogenetic analyzes delimitation executed. Accordingly results, specimens grouped into haplotypes, similar their geographic isolation. has been these groups are resource groups. Species delimination show differentiation haplotypes be

From tameness to wariness: chemical recognition of snake predators by lizards in a Mediterranean island

Antipredatory defenses are maintained when benefit exceeds cost. A weak predation pressure may lead insular lizards to tameness. Podarcis lilfordi exhibits a high degree of insular tameness, which may explain its extinction from the main island of Menorca when humans introduced predators. There are three species of lizards in Menorca: the native P. lilfordi, only on the surrounding islets, and ...

Phylogeography of the Italian wall lizard, Podarcis sicula, as revealed by mitochondrial DNA sequences.

In a phylogeographical survey of the Italian wall lizard, Podarcis sicula, DNA sequence variation along an 887-bp segment of the cytochrome b gene was examined in 96 specimens from 86 localities covering the distribution range of the species. In addition, parts of the 12S rRNA and 16S rRNA genes from 12 selected specimens as representatives of more divergent cytochrome b haploclades were sequen...

Leaf gas films delay salt entry and enhance underwater photosynthesis and internal aeration of Melilotus siculus submerged in saline water.

A combination of flooding and salinity is detrimental to most plants. We studied tolerance of complete submergence in saline water for Melilotus siculus, an annual legume with superhydrophobic leaf surfaces that retain gas films when under water. M. siculus survived complete submergence of 1 week at low salinity (up to 50 mol m(-3) NaCl), but did not recover following de-submergence from 100 mo...

Cadmium in Podarcis sicula Disrupts Prefollicular Oocyte Recruitment by Mimicking FSH Action

Cadmium is a highly polluting heavy metal known to have undesirable effects on health in both animals and humans, targeting the kidneys, the liver and the vascular system. A wide spectrum of deleterious effects has been reported also on the reproductive organs and the developing embryo. Cadmium in fact is a strong endocrine disruptor that interferes with functioning of endogenous receptors and ...
